Stop the abuse at ZBC
Padare/Enkundleni/Men's Forum on Gender
September 10, 2009

Padare /Enkundleni Men's Forum on Gender notes with great dismay the sexual abuse rampant at the state controlled Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation. We have learnt with great shock that a memo has been circulated around studios instructing women not to put on miniskirts or trousers at work. We strongly feel this is an insult to the women concerned as this is a serious infringement on their right to freedom of choice thus being a serious sexual harassment act.

We call upon the Chief Executive officer, who is being referred to as the source of the instruction, to immediately reverse such a diabolic and unacceptable move. We do not condone any kind of sexual harassment and we are advocating for a professional, respectful work environment that treats men and women as equals.

There are several cases of sexual harassment that has been happening at the state broadcaster for several years and we call upon the relevant authorities to put an end to this .Many have gone unpunished in their uncouth behaviors towards women. We call upon for the protection of female journalists on attachment who have been main targets and victims of abuse especially at Z.B.C.

We call upon the Journalists and anyone with information on the harassments going on to come up with any relevant information.
