the index of articles on the debate around the Domestic Violence
Bill
This is an open
letter to the MDC member of the House of Assembly for Tafara, Mabvuku,
Mr Timothy Mubawu and those of similar persuasion. It is meant as
a form of schooling on basic biblical and cultural principles that
promote domestic harmony. It is also a build up on the sentiments
of the Honourable Patrick Chinamasa, the Minister of Justice, Legal
and Parliamentary Affairs, in response to Mubawu's position.
- The Domestic
Violence Bill advocates for mutual respect in families, a principle
that runs through the Bible and Zimbabwean Culture. 1 Corinthians
7 vs 3
- The Domestic
Violence Bill advocates for non-violent resolution of conflicts.
This too is clearly espoused throughout the Bible and Zimbabwean
culture. 1 Peter 3 vs 8-10, Mathew 5 vs 21-22, Mathew 18 vs 15-17
- The Domestic
Violence Bill espouses the duty of caring for and protecting each
other. This is clear in the Good Samaritan story in the Bible
as well as being the back bone of the extended family in Zimbabwean
culture. Galatians 6 vs 2, Ephesians 5 vs 28, 6 vs 4, Colossians
3 vs 19
What is diabolic
and dangerous about the principles underlying the Bill? Is it rather
that Mr Mubawu is ignorant or so pretending to support his own personal
interest?
- Does he have
a mother, daughter, sister, aunts or cousins?
- Does he have
children?
- Are there
any women in his constituency?
- Does he understand
his role as a legislator in protecting the interest of men, women,
and children in his constituency?
Welcome to this
new age Mr Mubawu and awaken to your role as legislator.
And to "Proudly
Zimbabwean" what pride condones the needless butchering, raping,
beating and scalding of Zimbabweans, children, men and women? Is
it Zimbabwean to watch and not intervene by making relevant laws?
Is ten years
of consultations still not enough consultation?
