Engen:
Funding the Concept of National Building
Since 1990, Engen has invested more than R100-million in social
upliftment projects in support of nation building. The concept of
nation building is the one central issue, which informs all of Engen's
Corporate Social Investment activities.
Engen has identified four focus areas, which it believes are critical
to the concept of nation building in South Africa and on the African
continent. In summary, they are:
- education quality and delivery;
- sustainable job creation;
- peace and security; and,
- building national (and African) pride and identity.
Having identified these four areas of focus, Engen ensures that
each and every programme it undertakes contributes in large measure
to the achievement of its nation-building objectives. In order to
give substance to its total Corporate Social Investment programme,
the company has developed a matrix which, although allowing a range
of programmes, is always true to these four focus areas, and thus
to nation-building.

Foundation Funding for Rural Communities
The CCAfrica Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organisation
focused on the development of underprivileged, rural communities
that live in or alongside conservation areas in Africa.
The CCAfrica Foundation's diverse and far-reaching projects reach
out into rural communities, fundamentally touching people's lives
and building better communities. The programme's goals are to advance
social and economic conditions, improve infrastructure and encourage
the creation of small
enterprises linked to ecotourism. The Foundation's projects span
across five African regions: South Africa; Botswana; Zimbabwe; Kenya;
Tanzania and Zanzibar and are due to expand into Namibia in the
future.
Although a completely separate development organisation, the CCAfrica
Foundation is critically linked to the CCAfrica group, whose 26
luxury lodges span six Southern African countries. The Foundation's
administration and infrastructural needs are backed by the CCAfrica
group and it aims to act as a catalyst for the integrated development
of rural communities that neighbour conservation areas. Its goal
is to achieve a sustainable and balanced approach to the development
of local economies, the maintenance of
biodiversity and the viability of ecotourism.
Contact Ms. Anthea McGregor, Foundation Director, for current deadlines.
Until now, the CCAfrica Foundation projects have focused on fulfilling
