Appeal Target:
US$ 2,338,755
In Zimbabwe,
people’s livelihoods are already under serious stress from bad harvests
from the poor rains, and the recent forced evictions, which are pushing
millions into serious food shortage. Added to this, declining commercial
farm production, alarming number of people affected by HIV/AIDS (a
quarter of the adult population), lack of basic commodities such as
fuel and the general economic decline are worsening the situation.
The World Food
Programme (WFP) estimates that more than four million people in
Zimbabwe - almost one-third of the total population of the country
- are likely to face severe food shortage in the coming year. ACT
members Christian Care, and the Lutheran Development Services
are planning to support people who are facing potential acute food
shortages through:
- Food distribution
- Providing
protein enriched food to persons affected by HIV and AIDS, children
and pregnant and lactating mothers.
- Making available
drought resistant seeds for the coming planting season.
- Provision
of mobile kits for secondary care givers
- Psychosocial
support.
This appeal
will be implemented in the provinces of Masvingo, Midlands, North
and South Matebeleland.
