This year's
Harare Agricultural Show ran under the theme "Zimbabwe Agricultural
Show 99 and Still Going".
Until recently
Action was a project under a non-governmental organisation called
Zimbabwe Trust, but has since broken away to become a stand alone
organisation under the name "Action IEHDC".
Action was established
in 1987 as a result of the apparent need for information materials
for children in the areas of health, development and environment
issues. In view if the growing complexity of HIV and AIDS pandemic,
Action IEHDC through its partnership with Soul City, Institute for
Health and Development Communication, a South African based-NGO,
is working on a multi-media campaign, which includes social mobilisation
and advocacy activities to promote positive behaviour change in
matters to do with health and social development. Action IEHDC currently
produces multimedia products under "Action Pals" and
"Action For Life" brands targeting both children and
adults respectively.
Action IEHDC
in partnership with Soul City, is currently spearheading an HIV
prevention campaign in Zimbabwe entitled "OneLove",
an initiative being run in nine other countries in Southern Africa.
The OneLove Campaign is focusing on the reduction of Multiple and
Concurrent Sexual Partnerships (MCPs) which have been identified
as a key driver of HIV infection in Southern Africa. The overall
goal of the campaign is to decrease new HIV infections.
Action IEHDC,
in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare and
the NAC launched the OneLove Campaign in Zimbabwe in June 2009.
Action also displayed both "Action Pals" and "Action
for Life" materials during the Harare Agriculture Show. Hundreds
of people both children and adults visited the Action IEHDC show
stand, whose attractions were mainly the latest "Action Pals
3 Tomorrow is Ours" booklet and OneLove materials.
