    March 13, 2008

    The Promise
We promise to deliver to the people of Zimbabwe a quick economic turnaround through national political dialogue and healing; the strengthening of our economic sectors and; harnessing international goodwill.

    We will:

    1. Create a conducive business, industrial and commercial environment, devoid of the fetters of state control, in the firm knowledge that this will produce jobs for our people
    2. Restore agricultural productivity by enhancing the land reform programme, restoring the tenets of the original policy, to genuinely empower the majority of our people rather than a select few
    3. Enact regulatory laws that stimulate quick-response foreign direct investment in the mining and tourism sectors to immediately generate foreign exchange that will drive our turnaround strategy
    4. Establish grassroots programmes that drive development, with a special bias towards women, youths and rural societies
    5. Restore the integrity of the finance sector through the philosophy of international best practice and oversight
    6. Harness international goodwill to help resuscitate our health delivery systems by providing material and intellectual resources while encouraging our people in the Diaspora to bring back their skills
    7. Restore our education system to its former glory where it was the best on the African continent, by creating a fulfilling environment for all students and professionals in this sector
    8. Streamline our civil and security services into an efficient machine by providing the necessary resources and ensuring such resources are channeled towards appropriate projects that truly serve the people rather than political expediency
    9. Root out corruption, a cancer that has permeated the whole Zimbabwean society and
    10. Eliminate the politics of patronage that has until now rewarded Zimbabweans on the basis of political allegiance, not merit, much to the detriment of our public sector and parastatals.
