Electoral Commission (ZEC) to extend the national mobile registration
process
Zimbabwe
Electoral Commission (ZEC)
September 14, 2007
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) wishes to advice that after
considering reports received from its teams deployed to supervise
the 2007 National Mobile Registration Exercise and consulting stakeholders
including political parties on the effectiveness of the exercise,
it has resolved to extend the National Mobile Registration Programme
in areas where it deems the exercise was not satisfactorily conducted
due to logistical reasons and in response to concerns raised by
stakeholders.
Details on the
duration of the extension of the exercise will be communicated in
due course to the public through the print and electronic media.
The Commission will also deploy its teams in affected areas to educate
the public on various aspects of the exercise. The exercise will
entail the issuance of civil registration documents which include
national identity documents, birth and death certificates as well
as the registration of voters.
Please note
that the registration of births, deaths and voters is an on-going
exercise at all the Registrar-General's offices and members
of the public are free to approach same for any of the above-stated
services. The extension of the National Mobile Registration Exercise
has been granted to ensure that services brought closer to disadvantaged
members of the affected communities.
