outlines category of non-eligible voters http://www.herald.co.zw/index.php?id=48874&pubdate=2005-11-17 THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) yesterday outlined the categories of people who are non citizens who shall not be eligible to vote in the forthcoming November 26 Senate elections or any future elections. ZEC chief elections officer Mr Lovemore Sekeramayi said, in a statement, aliens and people who since December 31, 1985 have been regarded by virtue of a written law as permanently residents in Zimbabwe were not entitled to vote in the poll. He said people born of foreign parentage or one of whose parents was born out of the country and did not renounce their foreign citizenship in terms of section 9 of the Citizenship of Zimbabwe Act as amended by the Citizenship of Zimbabwe Amendment Act, 2003 would also not be eligible to vote. People who by any other means are citizens of a foreign country and did not renounce their foreign citizenship in terms of the Citizenship of Zimbabwe Act have also lost their entitlement to vote. The commission, over the weekend, said preparations for the senate elections were at an advanced stage with the National Logistical Committee mobilising resources to ensure everything was in place to conduct the polls.
