  • United States Embassy concerned over the tabulation of vote counts
    US Embassy in Zimbabwe
    April 06, 2005

The United States Embassy in Zimbabwe today released a statement documenting patterns of irregularities that raise additional concerns about last week's election. Twenty-five U. S. Embassy teams observed more than 350 polling stations in 59 constituencies. These observers noted a number of irregularities, including a lack of transparency in tabulation of votes, police and ZANU-PF agents having an inappropriate role in the voting process, location of some polling stations in non-neutral places, and a high percentage of voters turned away.

The statement calls on the Zimbabwean Election Commission to release the voting results of the individual polling stations as expeditiously as possible and notes that the absence of this information undermines confidence in the electoral process.
