    Dear All

    1. Bulawayo

There has been an offer of legal assistance in Bulawayo for magistrate's court hearings:

    Dear All,
I am aware that some of you have received notices/summons to appear in the Bulawayo Magistrate's Court next week. Do not be alarmed, there will be assistance for you at the Courts. There will be some ladies including myself to give assistance on filling out the forms and advising what to say etc. Hopefully, we will have a lawyer present as well.
In the meantime if you have any queries
phone me on 09-243467 (evenings only) or 011 230 733 or
    e.mail - lanonlin@gatorzw.2y.net.
PLEASE PASS ON TO OTHERS WHO HAVE APPEALED.
    Regards,
    Fiona Lander
PS If there are any lawyers out there who would like to offer their assistance - please contact me.

Are there any other lawyers out there who can assist at no charge - or at a substantially reduced fee?

    2. Consolidated information

This is an important additional file which contains consolidated information for people who have successfully lodged appeals against the notices of objection they received.
    View this consolidated information
    - Download this document:
      - Rich Text File (RTF) version - (12KB) can be opened by most word processors
       - Acrobat PDF version - (55KB)

    3. The next step - the High Court

ZLHR have briefed an advocate to prepare them for the High Court. As soon as information is available you will be notified of the procedure involved.

    4. Volunteers needed

Volunteers are urgently need by ZLHR to reply to enquiries left on their number above and to distribute draft forms at the courts and other relevant locations. Please email zlhr@icon.co.zw and head your mail "Volunteer" or call on (04) 251468 and leave a message to this effect.

    5. A success story from a contributor

As one of those whose appeals were rejected because they were said to be too late, I wrote on 13.2.02 to the Constituency Registrar pointing out the provisions of both the Electoral Act and of the Interpretation Act. I posted my letter and also hand-delivered a second copy.

Yesterday p.m. the Constituency Registrar's office telephoned asking me to submit my appeal today. This I did and duly paid my $50.

So, if your appeal was rejected, as mine was, it might help for you to write to the Constituency Registrar as I did, and then possibly be asked to re-submit your appeal.

    6. A thought from a contributor

Suggest that you advise people that should we lose the right to vote we must commit ourselves to some payback.
Go out and find 10 people on the voters roll that may not vote because of:-
    1) Not enough money to return to their constituencies to vote
    2) Too scared
    3) No money for transport
    4) Too old
    5) Unsure
    6) etc etc etc
Provide them with the means and the courage and lets get some PAY BACK.

    Best wishes
    Brenda Burrell
