International
Day of the Older Person
Save
the Elderly Trust
September 30, 2011
This
is our organisation's standing and position regarding the international
day of the older person which is being commemorated on the 1st of
October 2011. Our desire as Save the Elderly Trust was to celebrate
the day together with the international community but because of
lack of funding and resources we hope to mark the event however
as belated one.
We are working closely with the community and we wanted this international
day to be an eye-opener for everyone in this community and other
organisations. Our elderly are appreciating our presence and the
time we are spending with them sharing their emotional needs. This
age is facing a lot of problem as we are noticing a big number of
little children who are under the care of the elderly and resources
are limited to cater for these children. It is a burden to the older
person as they are not regarded as vulnerable.
We have found out from them but not all of them as some elderly
people are too old to do any kind of work because of continuous
illnesses. Those who are still able said that they can do some projects
to help themselves rather that depending on donations. Among the
projects they proposed are poultry keeping and vegetable selling.
We hold on the growing of vegetable nurseries because the community
is facing serious water problem although it was again a good project
for the elderly. We are approaching individuals and organizations
so that they can help us with the funding of these projects.
We have also lined up some activities like dramas, singing and dancing,
and some are even saying they want to play football and netball.
We have no resources for all these activities but we hope that as
we will continue with them, individuals and organisations will love
to help us.
We will continue realize the welfare of our elderly and together
with you we will make a difference.
