Six Masvingo activists
Maxwell Hlongwani, Brian Chimwayi, Christopher Mutema, Amos Mutema,
Terrance Moyo and Tatenda Dziva appeared before Masvingo Magistrate
Mr Mudzongachiso today the 26th of June. The six are facing charges
of public violence after protesting against the suspension of SRC
Elections that were supposed to be held last semester. They were
also protesting against students who were made to defer because
they had failed to clear their fee arrears. They were arrested on
the 8th of May and detained at Masvingo Central Police Station for
three nights and were released on the 11th of May 2012.
Trial will continue
on The 16th of July when cross examination for the six will continue.
The prosecutor
is Mr B Tandirai whilst their defence lawyer is Mr C Maboke.
