June 25, 2012
Six ZINASU activists
Pride Mkono, Tinashe Mtyaso, Tinashe Chisaira, Francis Mufambi,
Tryvine Musokeri and Joram Chikwadze appeared before A Harare Magistrate
today the 25th of June for application for dismissal of their charges.
At the close of the state's case, the defense lawyer, Obey
Shava indicated that he wanted to apply for discharge as the witnesses
gave conflicting statements in their testimonies. The six are facing
charges of Disorderly Conduct in a public place as defined in section
41 of the Criminal
Law (Codification and Reform) Act. The ruling of their application
will be given on the 29th of June.
It is the state's
case that on the 21st of March this year, the six together with
about 30 other accomplices who are still at large gathered outside
the Magistrates' court in solidarity with Welcome Zimuto,
Antoneta Choto, Munyaradzi Gwisai, Edson Chakuma, Hopewell Gumbo
and Tatenda Mombeyarara whose sentence was to be handed down that
day. It is alleged the ZINASU activists were singing obscene songs
and chanting slogans, they also threw fliers inscribed, "Freedom
for Zimuto, Choto, Gwisai, Chakuma, Mombeyarara and Gumbo."
