Three student activists to appear before a Bindura University student disciplinary committee
Students Solidarity Trust
August 11, 2011

Three Bindura University of Science Education student activists, Ian Makone, Trevor Chamba and David Kuipa are set to appear before the University's student disciplinary committee tomorrow Friday the 12th of August. The allegations are that on the 30th of May 2011 they were on the forefront of inciting other students into wrongful acts, it is alleged that on the day in question they were singing in the examination room whilst they were addressing unregistered students who were denied to write examinations. Their actions are said to be in violation of the rules of Students Conduct and disciplinary ordinance of 2001 paragraphs 1:3, 1:4, 3.1.5 and 3:2.1.

The Students Solidarity Trust urges the disciplinary committee to observe the tenets of natural justice. The committee has an opportunity to ensure that students' rights are upheld without condoning any acts of vandalism that may have occurred. Witnesses in this matter are also encouraged to testify truthfully and not in a biased manner. Notwithstanding previous erring of witnesses in past cases involving student activists, this hearing presents a unique opportunity for the authorities to deliver justice impartially.
