Students
Solidarity Trust
August 10, 2011
Four Masvingo student activists appeared before a Masvingo magistrate
this morning Wednesday the 10th of August. The four Zivanai Muzorodzi,
Arnold Batirai, Brighton Ramusi and Gamuchirai Mukura are facing
charges of malicious damage to property and attempted murder, these
charges emanate from a demonstration on the decaying state of the
education sector in the country on the 21st of July 2011. Today,
regional magistrate Mupunguka has set trial for the case to the
24th of August 2011.
Meanwhile, four
NUST activists
appeared today the 10th August before a Bulawayo Magistrate. The
four, David Mushanawani, Beven Nyamande, Ernest Makoni and Duncan
Mombeshora are facing charges of participating in an illegal gathering
with the intentions of causing public violence following a demonstration
against high tuition fees.
Trial date for
these four activists has been postponed to the 6th of September,
because there were no state witnesses.
The Students
Solidarity Trust continues to advocate for the swift delivery of
justice. Weak state cases have resulted in students being disturbed
in their studies due to the sluggish nature in which the state is
approaching the cases.
