Trial for one student activist begins
Students Solidarity Trust
August 02, 2011

One student Activist, Tafadzwa Kutya appeared before a Mutare Magistrate today the 2nd of August. The student is facing charges of unlawful entry and disorderly conduct following a demonstration on high tuition fees in October 2010. However, the trial was immediately postponed to the 5th of August due to unpreparedness on the part of the state.

The Students Solidarity Trust continues to observe a disturbing trend of the state bringing cases it is unable to sustain against students. The state continues to heavy-handedly persecute students by hauling them to various courts on charges which are frequently being thrown out by the judiciary. The Trust therefore implores the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs to stop the wanton persecution of students in this manner.
