Trial
date for five student activists set
Students
Solidarity Trust
July 28, 2011
Five Masvingo student activists Zivanai Muzorodzi, Gamuchirai Mukura,
Brighton Ramusi, Arnold Batirai and Joshua Chinyere this morning
appeared before a Masvingo magistrate facing charges of public indecency
dating back to the Masvingo Polytechnic demonstration in October
last year. The five appeared in court today Thursday the 28th after
the state had indicated that all evidence was available for trial
to begin. However the state indicated it was not ready and has set
trial date for the 5th of August.
The Students
Solidarity Trust continues to support student victims of human rights
violations by lending its voice to calls for reforms in the justice
system. Most of the cases involving students have collapsed due
to lack of evidence, a clear sign of bias from partisan prosecutors.
The continued dragging of these students in and out of court has
a negative impact on their learning hence the need to see justice
being delivered in the quickest possible time.
