Police disrupt ZINASU procession
Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU)
May 13, 2011

Ten members of the barbaric Zimbabwe Republic Police descended on students who had peacefully gathered for a march towards Benjamin Burombo Complex in Masvingo to petition the government on the urgent need to revive the Loan and Grant scheme.

The police arrested ZINASU President Obert Masaraure; Zivanai Muzorodzi ZINASU Treasurer; Prosper Tiringindi the Secretary General for Great Zimbabwe University SRC and Pride Mkono the UZ President. The four were held for over 2 hours by the police Law and Order Section and were released after over 50 students who had come for the march refused to leave the police complex and demanded the release of their fellow comrades. The students sang revolutionary songs and danced inside the police station and the police had no choice but to yield and caution the four and release them.

ZINASU remains resolute to continue the fight for the introduction of the Loan and Grant scheme and will not be deterred by the adamant police force that is known to suppress human rights defenders while protecting the interest of the actual criminals. The student's demands are legitimate and have to be attended to immediately and as a Union we will continue to fight for them.
