ZINASU welcomes back vice board chairperson Gumbo
Zimbabwe
National Students Union (ZINASU)
March 18, 2011
On Wednesday
the High Court of Zimbabwe granted
bail to Hopewell Gumbo, Munyaradzi Gwisai and four other social
justice activists. The six were part of the forty-five
activists arrested for allegedly plotting to initiate the Egyptian
or Tunisian style of revolution in Zimbabwe. Part
of the group was granted bail on the 7th of March 2011, but
Gwisai and Gumbo remained behind bars.
Gumbo a programs
officer at the Zimbabwe
Coalition and Debt and Development (ZIMCODD) is the former president
of the Zimbabwe National Students Union and is currently serving
as ZINASU's advisory board vice chairperson. ZINASU reiterates
that Gumbo's involvement in the gathering was to understand
some political changes taking place in North Africa, with no intention
at all to over through the current government of national unity.
ZINASU is however consoled
by the release of vice board chairperson Gumbo whose unwavering
support to the students cause is undaunted.
