No loans, no lectures
Zimbabwe
National Students Union (ZINASU)
January 21, 2011
The around 200
hundred students who gathered in Harare gardens today 21 January
2011 declared in no uncertain terms that they are going to disengage
from any institutional business until and after the loans and grant
scheme becomes a reality. The students had been drawn from tertiary
institutions from within Harare hoping to get an opportunity to
interface with the Ministries of Finance and Higher Education in
relation to the funding policy for 2011.
The erstwhile Ministers
disappointed by failing to pitch up to clarify on the new policy
of loans and grants which replaced the unpopular cadetship. Students
however vowed to fight hard to ensure that the loan scheme is revived.
Students Represantative Council leaders from Harare and Mashonaland
also seized the opportunity to share their common challenges from
different colleges and resolved to continuously work together to
tackle these challenges.
The Students
were addressed by ZINASU president Obert Masaraure, SST
officers Simba Moyo and Masimba Kuchera and all the ZINASU NEC members
present.
ZINASU shall
convene similar meetings in other administrative regions with or
without the Ministers.
