ZINASU disturbed by the late payment by government
Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU)
December 09, 2010

It came to the attention of ZINASU that the government has not yet remitted the fees for students on cadetship for the second semester that has been completed by other institutions whilst the universities such as the University of Zimbabwe and the National University of Science and Technology are yet to be completed.

The college and universities authorities have complained to the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education since the late remittals of these monies will affect the administrative work of the institutions. ZINASU having appreciated the bouncing back of the loan and grant scheme still remains sceptical concerning the ability of the government to pay these fees on behalf of the students in time.

The amount also allocated by the Minister of Finance falls short of the financial requirements of the students in tertiary institutions considering the upsurge in the number enrolled students. In light of these circumstances, ZINASU urges the government to always pay in time as this is causing financial strain of university and college authorities.

Meanwhile, the National University of Science and Technology tried in vain to bar few postgraduate students from writing examinations over small arrears such as US$10. The Student Representative Council Secretary General informed ZINASU that the university authorities would want to bar undergraduate students who have arrears from writing examinations commencing on the 5th of January 2011.
