Masvingo students can't wait
Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU)
September 29, 2010

Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) revolutionary team which is going around the country mobilizing students for an indefinite boycott was in Masvingo today after a successful campaign in Manicaland. The team comprising of The President Obert Masaraure, Tafadzwa Kutya, Zivanai Muzorodzi, Kundai Chambara, Gamuchirai Mukura, Godfrey Kurauone and Tabe Aleck met students and college authorities from Masvingo polytechinal College, Masvingo teachers college, Great Zimbabwe University, Bondolf Teachers College and Morgenster Teachers College.

The team is implementing the first of the three steps of the "fresh start by January 2011" campaign which seeks to force for the closure of all institution until reforms are ushered into the education sector. The students from Masvingo declared that they are ready to disengage from colleges on any day declared by the Mother body. Students are being dehumanized by current state of the education sector and are more than willing to voluntarily withdraw from colleges until their plight is addressed.

Masvingo province is the second province where such a comprehensive campaign was undertaken after a successful campaign in Manicaland on Monday 27 September 2010. The revolutionary train will be in Bulawayo province tomorrow Thursday 30 September before rounding up in Midlands province on Friday. The ZINASU National Executive will sit over the weekend and declare a date when all students should disengage from all tertiary institutions.

ZINASU is calling all the stakeholders in the education sector to address the plight of the students with immediate effect. Students cannot afford to pay the fees they are being charged and they also demand decent accommodation. The government of Zimbabwe must reintroduce the loan and grand system to support the students of Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile ZINASU has lost yet another student Charlton Chifamba from Mutare Poly who died yesterday after committing suicide after he had failed to raise fees demanded by the college, the parents of the students who are peasant farmers had been selling cattle for two terms now but gave up after their stock was continuously being depleted.
