Two National University of Science and Technology students further remanded
Students Solidarity Trust
August 26, 2010

Two National University of Science and Technology (NUST) student activists yesterday appeared before a Bulawayo magistrate facing charges of demonstrating with intentions of causing public violence and breach of peace. The two are part of five NUST student activists who were arrested on 11 November 2008 for participating in a National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) organized demonstration in the streets of Bulawayo. Since their release on bail on 24 November 2008, the five have been attending court almost once every month. Melusi Hlabano and Brian Mtisi appeared in court yesterday while Sheunesu Nyoni, Archford Mudzengi and Samson Nxumalo did not attend and warrants of arrests were issued on the three. The case was further remanded to the 30th of September.

The Student Solidarity Trust is concerned about the delay in the justice delivery system which has seen the five students appearing in court for close to three years now. The delay has led to the three absconding court. The allegations on the five are seriously affecting their studies.
