Gender desk embarks on a research
Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU)
July 06, 2010

The ZINASU Gender and Human Rights Department has embarked on a research on the causes of the decline of female participation in student activism. The tertiary institutions' SRC elections and previous ZINASU congresses have proved the reduction in the numbers of female students who are willingly to be student activists.

The research will enable the union to embark on strategies that will ensure the increase in the numbers of females who will participate in student activism in the future. The gender desk has come up with a two paged questionnaire which shall be distributed in selected institutions. The gender desk is working together with the Education and Research Secretary Bestnos Kundishora.

Meanwhile students at Masvingo Teachers' College who are on teaching practice are not receiving their allowances as the Salary Services Bureau claims to be paying for the students' fees despite the cadetship scheme paying for their fees. ZINASU has a strong feeling that this is not a genuine error but a sign of corruption.

The Sports and Recreation Secretary Sharon Manjere is optimistic that the Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions' Sports Team will make the nation proud in Botswana where CCUSA games are being held. Harare Polytechnic's Volleyball team, Africa University's rugby team, University of Zimbabwe soccer team and the National University of Science and Technology basketball team amongst others are part of the national team.

The ZINASU Masvingo provincial congress is going to be held on the 10th of July 2010 this weekend where the students are expected to deliberate on issues affecting them at institutions of higher learning. ZINASU shall on this day launch the Graduate Alive Campaign with the national leadership going for voluntary HIV/AIDS testing.
