Feedback as visits progress
Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU)
May 10, 2010

Preponderance of the tertiary institutions in Zimbabwe opened for the second term on the 3rd of May 2010, despite the fact that there is less goings-on on campuses of these colleges. It has been ghastly news for polytechnic students considering the modification of examination fees for HEXCO upwards with a National Diploma student paying at least US$151.00 and in addition they are expected to pay US$425.00 for tuition and residence.

ZINASU is troubled by the lack of sincerity by the unelected government when it comes to the education sector. In terms of documentation a lot has been outlined in terms of the education sector but alas nothing has been done on the ground except of none satisfying excuses. The National Executive Council (NEC) is worried by the silence of legislators who do have colleges in their constituencies considering that they got assistance from students on the belief that they will represent them. The President Obert Masaraure declared yesterday {06 May 2010) that the Inclusive Government shall not be allowed to exceed its lifeline as stipulated by the politician imposed Global Political Agreement.

Reports from the four administrative regions of ZINASU are as follows:

Masvingo

The team comprising of the President in the deputy capacity Tafadzwa Kutya, Finance Secretary Zivanai Muzorodzi, Aleck Tabe Legal and Social Welfare Secretary and a ember of the coordinating team Archfod Mudzengi were busy consulting students at Masvingo Polytechnic and Great Zimbabwe University. The group is expected to have a press conference today in the afternoon after a consultative meeting with the provincial student leaders concerning matters affecting them at their various institutions.

Midlands

The President in the company of the Secretary General addressed students at Mkoba Teachers' College where students are reported to have demanded the leadership to provide them with forms to show their endorsements in support of the resolutions of Sunday the 2nd of May 2010.

The duo proceeded to Gweru Polytechnic College where they had a meeting with two members of staff namely the Principal Mr Chandiwana and the Dean of Student Affairs Mr. Chondegwa. The Dean arranged a platform in which the national leadership gathered the concerns of the owners' of the UNION. The entrustment led by the President had a meeting in the evening at 1700hrs with the democratically elected SRC of Midlands State University. The Secretary General Joshua Chinyere proceeded to Bulawayo at 2000hrs whilst the President had to return to Harare for a important meeting with some strategic partners.

Manicaland

The Spokesperson and the Secretary for Education and Research had a consultative meeting at 0900 hrs with the SRC leaders of the institutions in the province. Members of the Africa University SRC failed to attend as they are busy preparing for examinations of this semester, the Vice President Innocent Kafembe sent apologies on behalf of his institutional leadership. Bestnos Kudishora urged the SRC leaders present to create e-mail accounts to enable them to get the daily alert of ZINASU which would ensure that they will not be susceptible to infiltration by forces of darkness. There are students who have not yet received results from HEXCO because of varied reasons, such as the leakage of exam papers and some of them date back to the year 2007.

Harare

Members of the coordinating team Kurayi Hoyi and Wisdom Mgagara were supposed to find office space in the CBD yesterday and get a report on how some partners have been managing our funds. Students in the capital have pledged their support on the new set up since they strongly believe that the brokered unity settlement was the only way out for the struggle of emancipation of the Zimbabwean student.
