ZINASU National President released
Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) (Mugwadi)
March 30, 2010

The Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) National President Tafadzwa "Tu-boy" Mugwadi has finally been released today the 30th of March 2010 from detention at the Harare Central Police Station. There was drama at the station with the arresting officers failing to raise any charges against him.

Having been arrested on the 27th of March 2010 at Harare Polytechnic College together with the ZINASU Education and Research secretary Bestnos Kundishora and University of Zimbabwe students leader Alias Chitombo for distributing the ZINASU Weekly newsletters and addressing students during the Tertiary Games hosted by the college, the ZINASU President has since been in custody and has sustained injuries all over his body which he incurred from the state brutality apparatus.

There had been serious efforts by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) to take the president to court but the police refused arguing that there were still working on his case, with several dockets being opened as attempts to frame charges. One of them stated that he was being detained for engaging in activities that were likely to cause breach of peace and incite the students to behave in a violent manner.
While we celebrate his unconditional release from what had become an incessant detention, ZINASU unreservedly condemns the continued harassment of students' leaders by the police and the state aimed at cowing the leaders into submission, typical of the Mugabe Regime.

Meanwhile, the President will be going to receive medical attention on his injured ear and swollen feet today's evening. ZINASU will continue to intensify the struggle to free the students towards rebuilding a democratic and peaceful Zimbabwe.

The Students' revolution is under trial but the Union remains resolute and committed.
