ZINASU distances itself from circulating e-mails
Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) (Chinyere)
March 09, 2010

Notice to all students and partners

Zimbabwe National Students Union would like to distance itself from the e-mails being circulated by a group of students and former students claiming to be ZINASU NEC members. These mails have been causing unnecessary confusion in the students' movement and amongst our partners. Special mention to the recent email sent from one Welcome Zimuto claiming that ZINASU NEC members were beaten up at the memorial service of Mai Tsvangirai. That email not only denigrates ZINASU but also the office of the Prime Minister, Hon. Morgan Tsvangirai.

It's unfortunate that some misguided college drop -outs can make a joke out of a very serious national event. All legitimate civil society leaders were given a platform to give solidarity speeches and the first to give was the President of ZINASU, Joshua Chinyere followed by NCA Chairman, Lovemore Madhuku then Lovemore Matombo from ZCTU, Sydney Chisi from Crisis Coalition and many others. It has come to the attention of ZINASU that these students who are housed at the NCA for unclear yet unscrupulous. These students who are helping Dr Madhuku to spread the Take - Charge gospel in an attempt to make it appear popular are bitter about the fact that only the two Lovemores (Matombo and Madhuku) recognize them as ZINASU leaders. Students don't recognize them and are rejecting them and their cronies in all SRC elections that have been held in more than six institutions since the beginning of the year. Since on the ground they have no support they have now turned into internet liars, online propaganda gurus, who claim victory and lie that they are ZINASU leaders working with students and also make baseless accusations of national and civil society leaders. We dissociate ourselves from these fake internet spiders.

It is shocking that a former student leader like Blessing Vava who finished his tertiary education in 2006 at Bulawayo Polytechnic continues to peddle an unfortunate and yet disturbing piece of newsletter claiming to be students' voice. What locus standi does he have to speak on behalf of the students? The other emails are being sent by one Kudakwashe Chakabva and Welcome Zimuto who are not attached to any institution. ZINASU is in the process of seeking legal redress against all these hooligans who are putting the name of the Students Union into disarray. We would like to urge all students and partners to ignore and dismiss all e-mails coming from what is called a Zinasu pressroom and from various individuals purporting to be ZINASU.

ZINASU would like to thank all the students who came in their hundreds to offer solidarity to the Prime Minister at the memorial service and all the female students who attended the International women day celebrations organized by the MDC and other women's organization. The ZINASU Vice President, Georgina Sango gave a splendid solidarity speech at the colorful event. The Union would like to urge students to remain resilient and warn Dr Madhuku to leave the students deal with their issues alone and stop imposing the take charge campaign on the students' populace.
