ZINASU
leadership meets with COPAC
Zimbabwe
National Students Union (ZINASU) (Chinyere)
January 11, 2010
The Zimbabwe
National Students Union National Executive Council (NEC) members
met with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Constitution on the
9th of January 2009 to discuss the current constitution making process.
The ZINASU team led by the President, Joshua Chinyere met with Honorable
Douglas Mwonzora, one of the co-chairs of the committee.
The ZINASU team
reiterated the need for students to fully contribute to the constitution
making process as it offers students an opportunity to demand that
education be recognized as a basic human right. President Chinyere
stated that students were fully prepared to take an active part
in the compilation of student's expectations and demands in
the new constitution.
The UNION will
embark on college visits to mobilize and educate students on the
need to fully participate in the new constititution. This comes
after students resolved to take part in the constitution making
process at the ZINASU Bi Annual Congress held on the 19th of December
2009. The congress saw the election of new NEC members headed by
Joshua Chinyere.
The new leadership
which took over from the Brilliant Dube executive has been working
very hard since their inception three weeks ago. They managed to
meet up with Vice Chancellors of different Universities over issues
of deferments of students over nonpayment of tuition fees and the
continued victimization of student leaders in colleges. The NEC
members will embark on a national tour this week to audit the current
state of the education sector in Zimbabwe.
