Official Communiqué : Clearing the air
Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU)
July 29, 2009

The Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) wishes to inform all the students, the public and stakeholders that we have NOT suspended any of our planned activities pending the holding of the 2nd People Constitutional Convention being organised by the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) and scheduled for Monday the 27th of July 2009 in Harare. Such a decision will not be in the best interest of the students of Zimbabwe.

Further, ZINASU as a democratic movement will NOT in any way mimic authoritarian organisations such as ZANU PF who are in an uncouth habit of forcing people to attend their political gatherings by closing down shops and bringing all business to a grind. It is our long-held position that such behaviour and practice is a total negation to the democratisation agenda in Zimbabwe.

Having that categorically re-affirmed, ZINASU takes this opportunity to clear the air and officially disown an unofficial communiqué purportedly issued by President Clever Bere yesterday the 23rd of July 2009. For the record, there is a consultative meeting to be held at Grey's Inn Hotel in Bulawayo tonight -- the 24th of July 2009. And national college visits are progressing as part of national auditing of the education sector in Zimbabwe.
