The six National
University of Science and Technology (NUST) student leaders
who were arrested and detained at Bulawayo Central Police station
on Monday 6 April 2009,after a protest over tuition fees were released
today on free bail.
The six namely
NUST President elect Kurayi 'Garnert' Hoyi, ZINASU Treasurer
Sheunesu Nyoni, former Secretary General Vivid Gwede, Edias Mucheuka,
Emmanuel Munyenyiwa and Kudakwashe Maguchu were arrested on charges
of malicious injury to property. They were told to report to Bulawayo
Central Police station on April 14 2009.
Hoyi was elected
the new President for the Student Representative Council in his
absence on elections held at the institution on Tuesday the 7th
of April 2009, the election was done while he was languishing in
police custody. Hoyi thanked the NUST students for the trust and
confidence they displayed when they chose him to be their leader
whilst he was in police custody.

all the best to the new executive, we urge them to represent the
wishes and aspirations of students in a non partisan manner.
