Students
to host AIDS awareness campaign
Zimbabwe
National Students Union (ZINASU)
September 23, 2008
The Zimbabwe
National Students Union (ZINASU) in conjunction with the Zimbabwe
Poets for Human Rights (ZPHR) will be hosting the second edition
of the 'Graduate Alive' campaign on Friday the 26th of September
from 1800hrs till late at the Large City Hall in Bulawayo. The program
is mainly targeted at students in tertiary institutions and aims
at raising awareness to students on the dangers of the HIV/AIDS
pandemic. The campaign was launched in Masvingo last year after
the realisation that students are the most vulnerable group because
of the economic hardships bedeviling the country.
We want to conscientise
students on the need of living a healthy life during and after they
graduate from college and hence this campaign. Students should take
precautionary measures and desist from engaging in immoral activities
that exposes them to the deadly virus.
We urge students to be
faithful to one partner and encourage them to be a generation of
HIV free academics. To the students who are already infected we
assure them that they can still graduate alive that is if they live
positively. Lastly we urge students to get tested and know their
status as a way of living a healthy positive life.
There shall be music,
poetry, public speaking, dramas and artists who are billed to perform
include Extra Large, Madiz, SIYAYA Arts ensemble, Mpopoma Dance
Group and CADET of the 'Makomishini' fame. All students tertiary
institutions and high schools are invited and this event is free
of charge.
