Chinhoyi University student suspended
Student Solidarity Trust
September 04, 2008

The Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) Vice Chancellor has suspended Lothando Makhubalo, a clothing and fashion design student. Lothando appeared before the University disciplinary committee yesterday to answer charges of inciting violence and organizing a demonstration on 14 May 2008. In a letter handed to her the vice chancellor considered recommendations of the student disciplinary committee and suspended her for four semesters. She was found guilty of inciting violence on campus on 14 May, organizing a demonstration which disrupted the normal functions of the University on 14 May and facilitating the escape of those who addressed students at the dinning hall on 14 May. She is also being accused of failing to attend a disciplinary hearing on 20 June without notice.

Following a demonstration that was carried out on 07 May at Chinhoyi University of Technology, Lothando was arrested the following day. On 09 May she appeared in court together with Privillege Matizanadzo and Faith Mutepfa. The state refused to prosecute them because the case had no merit.
