Four students
from Bindura University of Science (BUSE) have been released from
police custody this morning. The four were abducted at the University
on Tuesday. They have been charged with criminal nuisance under
the Criminal
Law (Codification and Reform) Act. The four are Glanis Changachirere,
Tellington Kwashira, Moses Chamisa and Clemence Saineti. The students
were picked as violence reaches alarming levels in the country especially
in Mashonaland Central province. In custody the students were exposed
to inhuman conditions associated with Zimbabwean prisons. Another
student Emmanuel Chihwa was abducted by Zanu PF militia while delivering
food for the four. He was later found dumped in a disused well near
Shamva. Chihwa was severely assaulted and a boulder tied on his
leg.
As state sponsored violence
continues, two students were arrested yesterday in Bulawayo by armed
riot police. Zwelithini Viki and Trust Nhubu were arrested by Bulawayo
police while on their way to Matabeleland South for a "Training
of Trainers" workshop. They are currently detained at Donington
police station.
Students
Christian Movement of Zimbabwe (SCMZ) Secretary General Prosper
Munatsi and two employees of the organization who were released
from Harare Central Police station on Tuesday are reporting daily
at the station. Upon their release they were told to come back the
following day. This is continuing as they are expected to report
again today. The three were part of ten people who were arrested
by the Zimbabwe Republic Police when they raided an office complex
which houses the Christian Alliance, Padare,
Ecumerical Support
Service and SCMZ. No charges has been preferred on them. Police
looted property ranging from laptops, computers, T-shirts and documents.
