Another
student activist abducted
Zimbabwe
National Students Union (ZINASU)
May 22, 2008
Obert Masaraure a vibrant
student activist at Midlands State University was abducted yesterday,
the 22nd of May 2008 by war veterans who forcefully abducted him
while attending a funeral in Zaka. Obert an aspiring Student Representative
Council President had gone to Zaka in company of his friend Onwel
Marasha whose mother had passed away. Masaraure was caught unaware
when six war veterans arrived at the funeral and threatened to kill
him if he fails to comply. The war veterans were armed with sticks,
knobkerries, sjamboks and machetes. By midday today his whereabouts
remains shrouded in mystery.
The abduction
comes after series of arrests, beatings, tortures and maiming of
innocent civilians by the regime. Violence has rocked the country
since the March 29 elections with the total death toll at 41. Zimbabwe
National Students Union warns the perpetrators of violence that
the day of reckoning is at hand, the blood of these comrades will
not go in vain. Blessing Vava, ZINASU Spokesperson was recently
abducted by the brutal, barbaric, viscous ZANU PF thugs at Chinhoyi
University of Technology and only to be found three days later at
a farm in Banket. We urge the students union to remain steadfast,
vigilant and united in face of such brutality.
Victory is certain.
'Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteous sake, for theirs
is the kingdom of heaven' - Matthew 10vs5
