Police in Masvingo
has re-arrested Hilliary Matanga Zengeni who was released on Saturday
afternoon. Hillary together with Courage Ngwarai appeared in court
on Saturday and paid admission of guilt fines. Yesterday he was
re-arrested together with Ogylive Makova. Makova was arrested for
leading students in erecting barricades at the University so that
the police vehicle carrying Courage Ngwarai would not leave the
campus. Students at Great Zimbabwe University were protesting against
the decision by the administration to suspend and evict Courage
Ngwarai who is also the ZINASU
secretary for legal and academic affairs.
Meanwhile students at
Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) has petitioned the University Vice
Chancellor Prof Maravanyika to summon Evison Zhou the Student Representative
Council (SRC) President for attacking Hillary Zengeni and for failing
to stop Ngwarai' s eviction. Students are also demanding that
Maravanyika should instil discipline in the college security guards.
Zhou is affiliated to the pro -government Zimbabwe Congress
of Student Union (ZICOSU) and most students belong to the Zimbabwe
National Students Union (ZINASU) which is the mother body of all
students in the country.
The two are currently
detained at Masvingo central police station.
