. . . more arrests
and torture in Masvingo
The persecutions of student
activists continue to take its toll in the country with the latest
arrest of Courage Ngwarai, ZINASU Legal and Academic Secretary at
Great Zimbabwe University in Masvingo last night, the 8th of May
2008. The arrest comes after peaceful protests by students last
week demanding the release of the presidential results and enactment
of a sound education policy framework. College authorities in conjunction
with the brutal police force are working tirelessly to frustrate
vibrant student activists in order to thwart resistance in the event
of a run off.
The unlawful arrest of
Courage Ngwarai sparked commotion as students protested in retaliation.
Several students were injured from the indiscriminate assaults by
riot police in the melee. Courage was slapped with an informal suspension
from the university and immediately forced to vacate the campus
halls of residence. The Union warns Mugabe's illegitimate Government
to stop forthwith the harassment and the unwarranted arrest of students.
Courage is still in police custody.
Meanwhile . . . ..
The whereabouts of ZINASU
Information Secretary who was kidnapped by war veterans yesterday,
8 May 2008 are still unclear. The four students arrested at Chinhoyi
University of Technology are still being held uncharged in police
custody.
