Indeed,
the struggle against tyranny is not yet over
Zimbabwe
National Students Union (ZINASU)
April 30, 2008
Allow me to start by
congratulating all of you for defying the illegal tuition fees imposed
by the illegitimate ZANU PF regime. Equally, congratulations for
successfully forcing the interim Permanent Secretary in the Ministry
of Higher and Tertiary Education, Washington Mbizvo, to issue a
statement compelling institutions of Higher learning to revert to
last term's fees.
I applaud your resilience
and determination. Unfortunately it is one achievement; the most
important one is yet to be achieved. Indeed, the struggle against
tyranny is not yet over.
It will be improper for me to fail to acknowledge your determination,
evidenced by last week's demonstrations aimed at pushing for democracy
in Zimbabwe. That is pushing Mugabe to accept the people's will.
I urge you all to rise
and stand stead fast against the tyranic regime of this day. It
is common knowledge that he lost and as such he must step down.
We also call upon the
students of Zimbabwe not to recognize Mugabe as the Chancellor of
all State Universities as he lost the March 29 elections.
To the institutions already
in the trenches, I urge you to escalate the momentum and to those
yet to join, I urge you to join in forthwith. And thus, I urge all
the students of Zimbabwe to riot until Mugabe steps down; we can
and must score on emphatic victory.
On another note, ZINASU
applaud the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) for taking the
position that it will not participate in any run- off/re-run as
Morgan Tsvangirai was decisively elected and there is no need for
a run-off. In simple terms, Morgan Tsvangirai won by over 50% and
there is no need for any run off.
Further, we urge the
MDC not to vaccilate; instead our leadership in the MDC must maintain
the stance taken. We stand shoulder to shoulder with you. We are
very much prepared to embark in any action deemed necessary to make
sure Mugabe succumbs to the people's will. ZINASU urges you to unequivocally
maintain this position.
ZINASU condemns, in the
strongest of terms, the Chinese Government for its continued support
of the illegitimate Mugabe regime and calls the people of China
to stop associating with the former President of Zimbabwe, Robert
Mugabe.
Lastly, ZINASU urges
the people of Zimbabwe to refuse intimidation and torture. Indeed
Mugabe and ZANU PF are now a minority and we cannot be cowed into
submission by a minority group.
