Accept
defeat: students urge Mugabe
Zimbabwe
National Students Union (ZINASU)
April 03, 2008
The Zimbabwe
National Students Union would like to urge Robert Mugabe, the outgoing
dictator of Zimbabwe and his cronies to simply accept defeat, as
it is now clear that you have lost the elections to MDC's Morgan
Tsvangirai. ZANU PF 's unpopularity has spread to rural areas and
this saw him losing quite a number of his so called strongholds
in the rural areas to the opposition.
Mugabe thought
that by donating farm machinery to the rural electorate he was going
to sway their votes but sorry oldman the people are now clever you
fooled them for a long time.Tax payers money was abused during Mugabe's
campaign, using money which was not budgeted for at a time when
the health, education sectors are on the verge of collapsing, and
these sectors have been receiving low budgetary allocations. A true
and genuine leader listens to the concerns of his people always,
not on the eve of an election.Mugabe's defeat is a milestone to
both the youths and the students of Zimbabwe,we call on our teachers
and lecturers who had left the country to come back home and work
together to rebuild our nation.
Our beloved
grants and payouts should be reintroduced to cushion student's upkeep
and survival in the tertiary institutions. We need a conducive and
better learning environment were education will be accessed by all
and not only by the rich. The halls of residents at the Universirty
of Zinbabwe should be reopened to ease accomodation problems
being faced by students who were illegal evicted by the ZANU PF
government.A normal person could not have donated computers in rural
and unelectrified schools like what Mugabe did when majority of
students in teritiary institutions are computer illeterate.Several
student leaders were thrown out of college by Mugabe's government
simply for defending their academic freedoms. To those who managed
to complete their studies its suffer continue as there are no jobs
for them locally except braving the Limpopo crocodiles to South
Africa in search of greener pastures. We hope our education is going
into safe hands and we urge the incoming government to prioritise
education and other basic essential services for the development
of our nation.
Our hospitals
had become death beds because of lack of medical facilities, thousands
are dying of HIV/AIDS because of failure to get adequate medication.
Roads are infested with a lot of potholes and thus becoming prone
to accidents, electricity shortages have been a daily recipe and
of late running sewages effluent which have become a bad sight in
most townships and hence posing serious health hazards for the citizens
of this country need urgent attention. We are also concerned with
the 2010 World Cup to be hosted by our neighbours South Africa, our
Tourism sector needs vigorous improvements and huge investments
if our nation is to benefit out of the soccer extravaganza. Tourists
were now shunning our country because of gross human right abuses.
We note with
great concern the rough patches which the opposition and the people
of Zimbabwe went through during the last 28 years, the struggle for
freedom is long and protracted and we will not allow you to get
away with our victory. The fact that Mugabe lost a majority of rural
constituencies is a clear indication that the people did not vote
for the ruling party. The loss by most ZANU PF top officials namely
Patrick Chinamasa, Chris Mushowe, Mike Nyambuya, Chen Chimutengwende,Opah
Muchinguri, Amos Midzi, Shuvai Mahofa and many others, is just but
an indication that Mugabe's trusted officials where not doing anything
for the people hence their rejection by the electorate. If 75% of
cabinet Ministers in Mugabe's government and highly respected politiburo
members failed to make it to parliament it signals the fall of this
dictatorship which had come of age. Be warned, Robert, that we will
not accept an illegal and undemocratic government of ZANU PF which
lost elections on 29 March elections. The unfortunate thing is that
you lost the House of Assembly elections and you are now delaying
the announcement of the Presidential because you know that you lost.
Even though the streets
of the country are now infested by Mugabe's armed military people
the the people of Zimbabwe have been patient enough and as such
not even tear gas smoke nor your sophisticated artillery cannot
stop the revolution. In 2000,you stole and we were quiet,in 2002
you stole again and you were taken to court and up until this day
the case is still in the courts,2008 we want our victory.
To the SADC
observer mission, you are a total disgrace,in that you endorsed
a bogus electoral process before the elections even started. It
is now a reality that SADC cannot do anything to help the people
of Zimbabwe and you are very much afraid of Robert. Although most
observer teams endorsed this election as free and fair there were
however a lot of disparities which were noted after this election
which include the late opening up of airwaves for the opposition,
the late release of the voters roll to the opposition, the donations
by Mugabe days before the elections, the over production of postal
ballots for the police and the military, and absence of observation
in the counting of postal votes to prevent multiple voting. We congratulate
President Morgan Tsvangirai for winning this all important election. We
strongly urge the partial Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to release
the full results as there are just trying to by time.We now demand
that Robert Mugabe be arraigned before International Court of Justice
for his crimes against humanity.Lastly the nation needs a people
driven democratic constitution as matter of urgence.
