  • ZINASU condemns the failed MDC unity talks
    Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU)
    February 05, 2008

The Zimbabwe National Students Union vehemently condemns in the strongest of terms the failure by the opposition Movement For Democratic Change (MDC) formations, to present a united front against Robert Mugabe in the forthcoming elections. It is saddening to note that these people can afford to put personal and selfish interests ahead of the interests of the suffering Zimbabwean citizenry.

We are shocked that the two parties are jostling and fighting over Parliamentary seats at the expense of the suffering masses of Zimbabwe. For them to disagree on a united front on the basis of who stands in which Constituency, when the country is in a serious crisis emanating from the bad governance of Robert Mugabe and to present him with an opportunity to regain control of Zimbabwe is disappointing and discouraging. With Inflation hovering above 50 000%, unemployment rate at over 85%, 75% of the population living below the poverty datum line, any level headed man would have opted for a united front to confront the geriatric, octogenarian Dictator.

To the two Presidents, Morgan Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara, SHAME ON YOU!! ! You have betrayed the people of Zimbabwe. History will judge you and remember when it judges you in absentia it shall judge you harshly. What legacy do you want to leave? Do you want us to remember you as Faction Leaders or National leaders? We cannot afford to sit idly and cowardly as you destroy our future. You will remain faction leaders if this unity fails out rightly.

We are not going to let the people's project fail. Let not any opportunist elements within the rank and file of both formations dent people's expectations and hopes for a better future. Surely our project cannot be sacrificed at all costs. YOU need to have the broader scope in mind.

We however feel it is never too late, we demand that you continue engaging each other till you have reached an agreement on a united front. We put it up to you to solve this matter before elections. A solution can still be implemented even after the nomination court has been closed. What we require from MDC is political goodwill to find a long lasting solution to the current impasse facing the nation.

    Clever Bere
    President
