ZINASU
condemns the arrest of Morgan Tsvangirai
Zimbabwe
National Students Union (ZINASU)
January 23, 2008
The Zimbabwe National
Students' Union vehemently condemns the arrest of MDC President,
Morgan Tsvangirai ahead of today's march. We also denounce, in the
strongest of terms, the heavy police presence in the city of Harare.
The arrest and the police presence is clearly meant to intimidate
the people of Zimbabwe and we therefore urge everyone to defy this
unjust move. We also urge everyone, wherever they are, to march
for their freedom today, the time is now. We want to make it clear,
unequivocally, that the students' movement is proceeding with today's
march demanding a new constitution, free and fair elections and
an address to the current difficulties being faced by the people
of Zimbabwe
We however note that the arrest of the MDC president and the revoking
of the clearance is a clear indication that Zanu Pf is not sincere
with the talks currently hitting the deadlock and as such we want
to make it clear that we will not idly sit and tolerate someone
who is sitting comfortably at state house fails to appreciate the
urgency and political will required to resolve the current crisis.
We therefore denounce the talks and their architect, Thabo Mbeki,
for not taking the Zimabwean crisis as urgent issue requiring an
urgent solution.
We strongly feel that the coming election under the current flawed
constitution
will not resolve anything. Lets march for our freedom, lets march
for new constitution, lets march for food, electricity, water and
development. Lets march demanding free and fair elections, lets
march for our future.
