Arrested
students released without charge
Students Solidarity Trust
January 15, 2008
Two Midlands
State University (MSU) students arrested on Tuesday last week
were released on Friday afternoon without any charges preferred
on them. Gweru police failed to take the two to court due to the
fact that clerk of courts are currently on strike.
Obert Masaraure
and Onwell Marasha were assaulted while in police custody. Initially
the police wanted to charge them under the Criminal
Codification and Reform Act. The two received medical treatment
in Harare and were discharged.
The two were arrested
in the streets of Gweru while demonstrating against water problems,
regular electricity cuts and worsening educational provision.
