More graduands join the band wagon
Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU)
November 06, 2007

More than three thousand graduands from the University of Zimbabwe were honoured with various degrees by President Mugabe on Friday 2 November 2007 at the University of Zimbabwe. Zinasu congatulates these brave comrades who managed to soldier on, irregardliness of the pressing economic, social and political conditions which they operated under. These students managed to overcome all odds putting into consideration the unhealthy learning environment they endured at the institute of higher learning.

The learning conditions at UZ have deteriorated in the past years with students being chucked out of halls of residences by Nyagura's cruel administration, lecturers engaging in endless strikes and go slows, inadequate studying materials and exorbitant tuition fees beyond the reach of many. And it is our concern that if the situation continues unabated there is fear of the University manufacturing half baked graduands. It is clear that 80% of these graduands will be without empolyment and it is sad to note that after all the efforts parents put in educating their children they still have to continue providing for them instead of the other way round.

Our greatest fear is that if the situation does not improve, our country will continue to lose expatriates to surrounding and overseas countries. This brain drain is posing serious negative effects on the country which has been reduced to a training ground for other countries who have better perfoming economies. Zinasu will continue to work even harder to ensure that students get the best education.

Again congratulations to those honoured with the cap of knowledge.
