Free Edison campaign: State postpones bail hearing as chaos reigns at court
Students Solidarity Trust
October 16, 2007

The state has again postponed the bail hearing of jailed Great Zimbabwe university student's executive council (SEC) Edison Hlatshwayo. This did not go down well with the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) who has recently launched the "Free Edison Campaign". The case was supposed to be head today at 1400hrs but it was postponed to 1600hrs.A group of students in solidarity with Hlatshwayo was refused entry to the courtroom. This infuriated them and started to sing revolutionary songs and chanting slogans against the state. They then marched through the streets of Masvingo towards the Civic centre in solidarity with the jailed student leader. He is expected to appear in court tomorrow. Edison was arrested on 27 September and to date he has been remanded at the notorious Mutimurefu prison. Meanwhile ten students from Masvingo Polytechnic and Great Zimbabwe University who were arrested last night are still at Masvingo central police station and are expected to appear in court tomorrow.
