Health
disaster strikes the University of Zimbabwe
Crisis
in Zimbabwe Coalition
October 10, 2007
The mass evictions
of 9 July 2007 which saw the displacement of over 5000 students
has since realized another threatening factor as hazardous conditions
have encroached the boarders of the University
of Zimbabwe's once revered campus.
Zimbabwe National Water
Authorities (ZINWA) has since cut off water supply due to late payment
by the university authorities and this has created inhabitable conditions
for the already stranded students who have resorted to depositing
their excretory material behind the campus' buildings.
The pressure emanates
from the fact that the students are no longer able to use the rest
rooms from the halls of residence that were shut down by the Professor
Levy Nyagura led administration.
It seems as if the government
has continued to turn a blind eye to the future of Zimbabwe by ignoring
the students plea for a formal and concrete redress of these pertinent
issues looming over the University of Zimbabwe. A crisis has developed
and serious concerns continue to unravel but to no avail as government
continues to arrest students who try to voice their genuine concerns
amicably.
