ZINASU participates at the SADC peoples Summit
Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU)

The Zimbabwe National Student Union (ZINASU) participated in this year' SADC peoples summit in Zambia. The summit was hosted by SAPSN, a regional social justice formation. The student union sent a strong 15 member delegation which included 9 female students and 6 male students. Promise Mkwananzi, the union president led the delegation.

Promise Mkwanazi presented a paper on the current state of the education in Zimbabwe and the role of Zambia in the processes of re-building the education systems and sustainable democracy in Zimbabwe. Promise was qouted by THE STUDENT media crew as said, 'Zambia is not free until Zimbabwe is free'.

On the on going SADC mediation processes, Promise commended the efforts by the regional body but warned South African President, H.E Mbeki about the history of the government of Zimbabwe of reneging on promises.

ZINASU was part of the civil society organisations that met with the Mbeki mediation team on the 13th of August 2007 in Pretoria. The student union also used the opportunity to meet with most youth and student formations in Zambia.

At the University of Zambia (UNZA), ZINASU had a three hour meeting with the Student Representative Council (SRC). Key issues discussed in the meeting was the drastic deterioration of human rights in Zimbabwe and Swaziland and the role of students in providing alternatives and solutions to the probIt was agreed that there is need to revive, the Southern African Student Union(SASU), a regional student formation which coordinated the activities of all student union in the SADC region.
