Harare

The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) has refused to re-open the Halls of Residence to accommodate all students including first year students, foreign students were not spared. The University is set to open its doors for the new intakes on the 10th of September 2007.In the letters of admission to the successful applicants , the University Registrar Mr S. Chevo, indicated that the university will not be able to offer accommodation to all students. First year students from outside Harare traditionally used to get first preference for the limited accommodation on campus this served as a deliberate strategy for managing the challenges of relocation and subsequent orientation processes. The University of Zimbabwe closed all the Halls of Residence at the University on the 9th of July 2007 after a spate of students protests over the proposed lecturer's strike induced - fee hike.
