ZINASU meets Govt, African Diplomats

Following the
mass forced evictions of students at the University
of Zimbabwe on Monday the 9th of July, the Zimbabwe National
Students Union this morning dispatched strong delegations to diplomatic
offices to table the predicaments students are finding themselves
in. The delegations were sent to the African Union Chairperson,
The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana where they met David Sefa-Boakye
who promised to communicate with the Ghanaian President's office,
another was sent to The embassy of the Republic of South Africa
where they met Eden Reid who is the Third Secretary, Political Affairs
Department who also promised to communicate the issue to The President
of South Africa's Office, lastly to the Tanzanian Ambassador, Mr.
R. Adadi who said that the embassy on behalf of Tanzania is closely
monitoring and following the sad developments at the University
of Zimbabwe.
ZINASU also sent a delegation
to meet the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, who unfortunately
was reported to be out of office since Monday. The delegation however,
met Ms Muguti, the acting Permanent Secretary who said that her
hands were tied since she could not make any binding decisions hence
she could not act on the issue. The Students Union will continue
to engage the Univeristy adminstration in serious legal battles
as 5,600 students were affected, 65% being female students.
