University of Zimbabwe students face immediate eviction from campus halls of residence
Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU)
June 29, 2007

Students from the University of Zimbabwe are shocked but not surprised by the insensitive decision that was recently made by the Vice Chancellor, Levy Nyagura to top up, with immediate effect, the campus residence fees with ZW $ 1000,000-00 (One million Zimbabwean dollars) for the remaining month of July 2007. The hike came after the extention of the semester which is meant to compensate learning time lost owing to the strike by lecturers. The government of Robert Mugabe apparently failed to address fully the plight of university staff, resulting in them downing tools indefinitely. Students are then supposed to cushion such anomalies all the time. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

The astronomical hike that was approved on the 27th of June 2007 has an unjustifiable deadline date of 29 June 2007, otherwise there will be FORCED EVICTION. Students are therefore expected to raise the one million dollars in one day. NONSENSE ! ZANU PF and Nyagura, a misdirected lot. Students have however warned Robert Mugabe and his cronies that such continued mischieve will expedite their exit.

"We shall not be moved by such cheap and shallow tactics to thwart the robust and vibrant students movement." (Lovemore Chinoputsa - University of Zimbabwe Students Union President)
