UZ
student leader missing
Zimbabwe
National Students Union (ZINASU)
May 18, 2007
Tineyi Mukwewa,
the University
of Zimbabwe (UZ) Student Union President has gone missing amid
growing fears that he might have been abducted or murdered. Impeccable
sources said that he was arrested and detained by members of the
UZ security (Green Bombers) on Wednesday, the 16th of May 2007.
But up to now his whereabouts are not clear. A lawyer was deployed
by Tafadzwa Mugabe, a senior Lawyer with Zimbabwe
Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) that same Wednesday after the
news reached ZLHR about his arrest.
The Lawyer failed to locate him at both Avondale Police Station
and Central Police Station, where students are often taken to. We
have also tried to find out but our efforts were fruitless.
If anyone has any information please assist.
Bindura
Meanwhile, the two student leaders, Moreblessing Mabhunu and Tinashe
Madamombe from Bindura University of Science Education who were
reportedly abducted yesterday were found today at the Bindura Police
Station badly injured. They are still in police custody but information
coming from Bindura is that they might be released today or tommorrow.
No charges have been levelled against them.
