Students at Masvingo State University face perpetual denial of food
Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU)
April 16, 2007

About 7 students leaders were reported abducted on Tuesday 10 April 2007 night for protesting against Masvingo State University (MASU) authorities` decision to deny them food. Meanwhile, five of the students have been released but the Student Representative Council (SRC) president Witlow Mugwiji and secratary general Edson Hlatswayo's whereabouts are not known after they were taken by a group, allegedly composed of ZANU P.F youths and the police. Their lawyer Mr. Wellington Muzenda has been making frantic efforts to locate where they are currently being detained.

Students at MASU have vowed to force the college administration to provide food since they (students) have all paid catering fees for the full semester. Students have resolved not to top up the fees that are being charged as extras for this semester. ZINASU vice president has said the situation is volatile and potentially explosive.

It is reported that 11 female students fainted in the hostels, possibly because of hunger.
